[ Overview ] [ Who Can Benefit? ] [ F.A.Q. ] [ DLS History ] [ DLS Process ] [ Research ] FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. What is the success rate of Children & Adults who undertake the Dynamic Listening Systems (DLS) Program? Over 90% of all who undertake the Dynamic Listening Systems Program report significant improvement and/or remediation of their primary concern. 2. What is considered 'success' in this context? The program is considered successful when the presenting or underlying problem has been resolved or shows significant improvement. For example, if a child has a reading problem, but the reading problem is due to an auditory processing problem, he/she will have resolved the auditory piece and is likely reading better. (Naturally, gaps in a child's reading and vocabulary skills from previous years may still require tutoring or academic assistance.) In the case of inattention, the child will show increased ability to sustain attention. With irritability and mood changes, the mood shifts are generally resolved and the person is happier. These improvements are often life-changing. It is not unusual for clients who have seen minimal improvement in speech or occupational therapy for three to four years to see significant gains within 3 to 4 weeks of the DLS program, and permanent gains within 3 to 4 months. 3. Is the Dynamic Listening Systems Program covered by my health insurance? DLS is an educational intervention and does not have insurance codes. Parents and family members privately fund most listening programs. 4. What age is appropriate for a DLS program? We have worked with children as young as 22 months of age. There is no ceiling on the upper end, we have had clients in their 70's and 80's receive great benefit. 5. What if my child cannot do the Listening Test? Listening Tests cannot be performed by children under 5-6 years of age, nor by some children who have a difficult time following auditory instructions. The test is an important tool, but it is not essential. |
